The Company
Cell C is South Africa’s third cell network and is owned by 3C Telecommunications. Cell C offers its customers postpaid and prepaid mobile telecom products as well as innovative mobile data services, with over 7.4M mobile subscribers.

The Challenge:
• Compete with one-product-fits-all offerings that had recently launched in South Africa by offering Cell C subscribers a local, relevant application with full navigation functionalities
• Provide Cell C subscribers with a high quality mobile navigation solution
• Provide Cell C subscribers the ability to find their favourite local South African chains and brands around them

The Solution:
In November 2011, Cell C launched “Cell C Xplorer” – which is available to all Cell C BlackBerry subscribers. Cell C Xplorer is available through VPL (virtual preload) on all new BlackBerry devices and to users who have already purchased a BlackBerry from Cell C in the past.
Cell C Xplorer is totally FREE of charge to any Cell C subscriber with a BlackBerry that they purchased from Cell C. Users can simply click on the Cell C Xplorer icon on their phone and they get complete turn-by-turn navigation.
Cell C are the first operator in South Africa to enable users to reach their favourite South African brands in just one simple click.

The Result:
Since the launch thousands of new users continue to join the service each week. Users continue to use the application on a regular basis for navigating by car and by foot and also for local search.
