Telmap Navigator

Live Traffic

Telmap Navigator provides traffic support by connecting to live traffic feeds using the standard TMC protocol. Traffic information is provided both in the context of a route during navigation, or in the context of any viewed map. On the navigation screen traffic information is presented as an icon in the corner of the screen indicating traffic along the route. On any map viewed, traffic is presented as a set of icons which indicate the nature of each traffic event on the map and show its exact location. A list of relevant traffic events can be viewed for the cases of both navigation and mapping. During navigation, if consideration for traffic is activated (a setting configurable by the user), then the route calculation provides a traffic-aware optimized route. If a viable alternative to the optimal route also exists then Telmap Navigator will display both alternatives to the user to choose from. Each alternative indicates the expected travel time and the number of traffic incidents along the way allowing the user to make a judgment on which is the best route to take. If no traffic events are reported on the requested route, the calculation is effectively for the basic fastest (or shortest) route. Each time traffic information is updated (periodically e.g. every 10 minutes) Telmap Navigator will re-evaluate if the current route is still the best one, and if not, will recalculate the route according the updated traffic conditions. Inclusion of traffic events in the route calculation has zero impact on the efficiency of the algorithm so that in either case the user receives the first navigation instruction within a few seconds and gets under way. In addition, any map viewed by the user will include traffic in the viewable area providing a general view of traffic conditions. The user can then view full details of each event.
